Born in Norfolk I migrated to London aged 18. I trained as a nurse at the London Hospital (now the Royal London) followed by a year as a VSO nurse in Zambia and several years as a health visitor in Suffolk and then in Hackney when we moved back. I have lived, worked and brought up my family in Hackney for over 40 years. In 2006 I retired from 18 years as Director of Care Services for a large not for profit care provider covering east London and Thurrock. Not knowing how to be retired I got work with Social Action for Health door knocking on a Hackney estate – and became a trustee soon afterwards. I am also Chair of CHOICE in Hackney (a user led disabled organisation) and a trustee at the local Carers Centre in Hackney. Social Action for Health is a uniquely vibrant organisation and I am proud to be able to work with such a great group of people.
