Citizen Advice Bureau (East End) provides free, confidential, and impartial advice for communities in Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets on the big issues affecting people's lives.

Their goal is to help everyone find a way forward, whatever problem they face. They do this by offering advice through drop in sessions, appointments in their main offices, at various outreach centres including children’s Centres and on their telephone advice.

Using the data that we hold as well as having a better insight of the issues presented to us, The Citizens advice service:

  1. Help research the issues further

    2. Influence decision makers to change

"The Social Action For Health partnership helps people who otherwise might not seek help or advice either due to health, language or cultural restrictions that The Social Action For Health owing to its locations, particularly at GP surgeries overcomes. Its inclusiveness helps advise a significant number of people who otherwise might fall through the net."

Quote from Adam – Advice Caseworker

As part of the consortium East End Citizens Advice,

we have experienced advisers who are specifically allocated to each of the surgeries and the fact that advice is provided at their local surgery makes it easier and more convenient for clients to attend.

The clients are also more willing to attend an appointment in a more familiar setting. Feedback obtained from clients and the surgery staff is very positive as the service is valued as a support in dealing with client’s non-clinical matters. It  also saves time  for them and the resulting reduction in stress levels in clients often leads to reduced attendance at GP appointments.

Having to work with other advice agencies is also very beneficial as we draw support and can refer to various other specialist services offered by them. This is unique to simply having the clients supported in one area such as income maximization and then also being able to refer them to ESOL classes or employment skills classes in another organization in the consortium.
